Club Night – Thursday 12th June 2025

Simon started off the evening by making a small box in the shape of an acorn with a threaded lid. He demonstrated just how versatile his jig is and once familiar with setting it up, how quickly both male and female threads can be cut. For the regular threaded boxmaker this jig gives consistant results. He handed around some samples that have a tape measure inside that is wound back in using a knob at the top of the box. The pictures below tell the story.

Simon then went to to describe and demonstrate offset turning. A full article about offset turning can be found on the Workshop Tips and Ideas page (click the link at the bottom of this article). As you can see in the pictures, he showed how the blank is mounted off centre to cut the skewed shapes but returned to centre to create the ball in the middle.
